The global energy sector is undergoing a fundamental shift away from fossil fuels toward clean energy technologies. A ‘just’ energy transition will ensure that stakeholders entrenched in the current energy landscape are not negatively affected by this change in energy sources. These includes workers, communities, businesses and even municipalities.

It has been shown that the shift to clean energy sources will provide greater economic and social opportunities with South Africa. With the country planning to decommission most of it’s coal fired power stations over the next 20 years, it is crucial that pathways to a greener economy are established.

This section will provide more information on the concept of a Just Transition and the actions being taken both in South Africa and around the world.
