Designed for financiers, policymakers, local impact brokers, and national and subnational governments in Cameroon, this tool clarifies adaptation funding flows and gaps and facilitates inclusive local adaptation by increasing transparency and knowledge on these funding flows.

Programme brief:
The “Climate-Water-Nexus: Integrated Water Resources Management in the Niger Basin (CLIM’O)” programme focuses on addressing water management challenges in the Niger Basin amidst climate change impacts. It aims to enhance integrated water resources management (IWRM) by promoting sustainable practices that align with local needs and ecosystems. The programme fosters stakeholder participation in decision-making processes to improve water governance, enhance resilience, and promote cross-border cooperation. Key activities include capacity building for local communities, development of climate adaptation strategies, and investment in sustainable water infrastructure. The project will strengthen the Niger Basin Authority and its member countries to mainstream climate change adaptation into regional and national planning, implementation, and monitoring mechanisms.

Global Sub national Climate Fund (SnCF Global)

Timeline: Nov 2020 – Nov 2035
Budget: USD 750 million budget across 42 countries (concessional loan: USD 18,500,000, equity: USD 150,000,000)

Programme brief:
The Global Sub national Climate Fund is composed of an equity fund and a technical assistance facility targeting mid-sized (USD 5-75 million) infrastructure projects at the subnational level, including sustainable energy, waste and sanitation, regenerative agriculture, and nature-based climate solutions. The goal of the Sub-national Climate Fund Global is to catalyze long-term climate investment at the sub-national level for mitigation and adaptation solutions through a transformative financing model. The SnCF Global’s business model is designed to attract primarily private institutional investment and to deliver certified climate and Sustainable Development impacts and Nature-based Solutions at global scale.

Increasing local communities’ resilience to climate change through youth entrepreneurship and integrated natural resources management (ACREGIR)

Timeline: Oct 2022 – 2028
Budget: USD 9,982,000

The Increasing Local Communities’ Resilience to Climate Change through Youth Entrepreneurship and Integrated Natural Resources Management project aims to enhance climate resilience among communities in the North and Far North regions of Cameroon. By targeting youth engagement, the project focuses on integrated natural resource management to bolster sustainable livelihoods through entrepreneurship. Key outputs include capacity-building programs designed to develop entrepreneurial skills in youth, training on sustainable resource management, and the establishment of local business initiatives that promote resilience to climate change impacts. The project is part of broader efforts to empower communities and foster sustainable development.

Welcome to the Cameroon adaptation finance landscape tool!

This tool is designed to be a practical, user-friendly resource, enhancing the visibility of adaptation finance flows in Cameroon. It maps current and near-term local adaptation programmes and projects in Cameroon, as of end-2024, using publicly-accessible data.

This first iteration maps international public funding, laying the foundation for future layers and broader replication.

The tool follows a participatory and iterative approach. Built as a living resource, this tool will be updated over time and enriched with additional contributions. We invite collaborators to provide feedback and suggest adjustments and additions to the data.
