Timeline: 2023 – 2028
Budget: USD 50,000 (Phase 1)
Programme brief:
The programme aims to conserve the Dibamba River, an important but imperiled resource, by funding a balance between economic development, the use of the river and the protection of the species. Flowing along the rapidly expanding City of Doula in Cameroon, the river is valued and used for fishing, sand mining, and aquaculture, as a relief valve for disposing of storm water and wastewater, and as a cultural and spiritual cornerstone of the villages in Doula. The Dibamba River is also a major source of drinking water for the city. The programme will enable Doula City Council to enhance long-term urban development along the river and control of data from the city of Doula through the Metropolitan Observatory for more informed decision-making.
