STEP 5
Identify funding sources and mechanisms
Securing finance is often the most critical step in turning resilience priorities into action. For African cities, this means understanding the landscape of available funding sources, from municipal budgets and international climate funds to private sector partnerships and innovative financial instruments. Linking finance to earlier steps – such as evidence from risk assessments and priorities validated with stakeholders – strengthens the case for investment and helps align projects with funder requirements and develop tailored finance pathways.
This step introduces practical tools to support cities on their finance journey. Together, these resources provide a foundation for cities to navigate the complexities of finance and unlock investment for resilient, sustainable futures.
Goal
To enable cities to move from planning into implementation by equipping them with the knowledge and tools to identify, access, and structure finance for DRR and climate adaptation projects.
Tools
