STEP 3

Assess your city’s governance on DRR and CCA

Assessing your city’s institutional structures, policies, and capacities helps identify strengths to build on, gaps to address, and opportunities for improvement. A structured assessment process ensures that adaptation and DRR interventions are targeted and aligned with institutional capacities, ultimately enhancing sustainability and impact. Workshops are also encouraged in this step, to provide an opportunity to raise awareness of local climate challenges, foster inclusive dialogue, and build a sense of ownership amongst participants, making climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction initiatives more effective and locally grounded.

Call to action

Join the MCR2030 initiative to strengthen your city’s resilience through collective action and peer learning. Cities with gender-inclusive governance structures are better equipped to respond to crises. For instance, Freetown, Sierra Leone, integrated women’s leadership into its disaster risk reduction policies, resulting in a 30% increase in community trust in local authorities. Assessing governance through a gender lens helps identify systemic barriers and ensures that policies empower marginalised groups.
